The East London Transit started in 2010 after years of planning to provide a part-segregated rapid bus transit system container 40 feet in East London to provide a reliable bus service due to the increasing demand from the Thames Gateway Development, the route was built to allow for a possible future conversion to a tram system. The construction was done in two phases, phase 1 was complete in February 2010 when route EL1 replaced route 369 to provide a 24 hour service between Ilford & Thames container 40 feet View Estate and route EL2 also started which runs alongside route EL1 to Thames View Estate and then continues on to a new terminus built at Dagenham Dock Station, route 179 was diverted to run to Ilford container 40 feet Hainault container 40 feet Street instead of Barking as a result of this.
The extension will take the EL1 into the new Barking Riverside container 40 feet Development and will share a bus stand with route 387 within the development, route 387 will continue to run to Barking Reach via Thames Road and the EL1 will provide a 24 hour service to Barking Reach for the first time. The Barking Riverside Development is part of the much larger London Riverside Development, the Barking Riverside Development is a 150 hectare site which will see the building of 10,800 homes, a district centre, secondary school and two local centres including the completed Rivergate Centre container 40 feet which includes a Primary School, the expected completion date of the development is 2033 however the first two phases of 3,300 homes, Rivergate Centre and Secondary School is expected to be complete around 2025. The development will mean that this previously unpopulated area will see a new community and new areas to visit such as 2km of Thames Waterfront container 40 feet and as such further new transport links will need to be provided as the EL1, EL2 and 387 won’t be enough to cope with the new population. The DLR plans to build an extension from Gallions Reach to Dagenham Dock with a new station at Barking Riverside and the East London Transit has almost completed phase 2 of it’s container 40 feet construction which will see a new route running through the development from the western side which is due to be completed later this month.
Route 387 runs two morning journeys to Creekmouth and two evening journeys from Creekmouth Monday – Friday which is fairly underused so as part of this consultation Transport for London also suggested that the Creekmouth journeys are discontinued, the majority container 40 feet of responses were also in favour of this and therefore these services will be discontinued from Saturday 26th October 2013 and route 387 will only run services to Barking Reach.
