The London Transit Commission is expected to hire a consultant next week charged with transitioning the service from paper to plastic.
The commission received multiple bids on what s dubbed the smart card project, general manager Larry Ducharme ltc live arrival said. The proposals are still being assessed and will be made public at Wednesday s board meeting, he said.
Officials have said $2.2 million has been budgeted implementing the system, which will allow people to store bus fare on re-loadable cards. The new technology is expected to include installing electronic readers on buses so passengers can simply waive their cards and have money deducted ltc live arrival as they board.
